The Slow Burn...

Coping with stress in the dental profession and managing yourself during the GDC's fitness to practice process.

The Slow Burn ">

Dental professionals across the UK are struggling with the pressure of bureaucratic burdens and concerns about having to increasingly practice defensive dentistry to avoid negligence claims.

We continue to see more ongoing examples of dental professionals falling foul of the GDC's fitness to practice process.

In 2014 the number of complaints made to the GDC alone was 3222 up from 3099 the previous year and the number of days hearings taking reaching 1200 when in 1987 it was only 20.

The time it takes to get a case from the initial complaint to the GDC hearing commitee stages is around 18-24 months which means during this period the dental professional is left with the sword of damaclease hanging over them and facing huge uncertainty and stress.  Most clinicians and nursing staff can expect a complaint from patients to occur in their career but it's not the fact that they have been compained about that makes a difference, its all about how quickly and calmly they can come back to the real world and recover or bounce back.

This course is brought to you by Anthony Asquith Dip Hyp Psych UK writer of the book Surviving the Human zoo and is aimed at all dental professionals who are either going through fitness to practice process's or simply wanting to find out more about this topic.
